It's my first day as an employee of TISD, and of course, that means New Teacher Orientation. (I missed out on the one for LISD when I started working at Judson MiddleSchool because I started at the end of September of 2004.) So I had to get up and introduce myself, where I'm from, where I used to work at, etc. I wasn't be the only one coming from LHS; Coach Borens also was there and he'll be teaching World Geography and World History besides coaching on the varsity. There were approximately 25 new teachers there (at least 10 are coaches), and there was a good mixture of black and white, male and female there. The entire Tatum ISD Administrative office were there also and introduced themselves, and I was very impressed by that.
Mr. Fite gave a great uplifting and motivational speech about the expectations we should have for our kids, ourselves, and for each other- Some highlights of what he said:
"Expect what you tolerate."
Being able to communicate with our kids, because we are losing (lost?) a generation from not doing so. Share experiences, show understanding and compassion.
Conflict is going to come- Prepare and be able to respond in a professional and positive manner- Treat it as a learning process-
